Some source archives unfortunately disappear from their URL. In many cases it is still available at https://opam.ocaml.org/cache (if published on the ocaml/opam-repository). It could be interesting to try that URL if a download fails as a second option (or even as a first option).

I like that proposal. Though I'd first go to the original source url and only thereafter to some cache(s). I'd as well appreciate if we can have a report (maybe served as website) for those source urls that are not available anymore.
